An introduction to men’s hats

Despite the common belief that hats are a disappearing part of the fashion scene, millions of men’s hats are sold each year and men’s hats have become more popular than ever. One only needs to turn to Hollywood to see the popularity of men’s hats today, with stars such as Brad Pitt, Jamie Fox, and Zak Efron love their hats, and wear them proudly.

Today, men’s hats are slowly regaining ground – not as a functional item but as a statement of personal style, with the most popular being the fedora hat, baseball hats, and the ever classic panama straws.

Men’s hats are a most striking feature, often creating a successful and businesslike image and even air of mystery. Colors vary from light to dark, black to brown and white to silver and interestingly, while men’s hats have sizes like 7 1/8, women’s hats have sizes like 22 1/2, because men’s hats are measured by head diameter, while women’s hats go by circumference.

When choosing a men’s hat, look for one that complements you and blends in as a natural part of the outfit being worn. Consider your face shape when choosing your style – is your face square or round, tall or compact? Alternatively, visit a hat store, where someone can fit a hat to your face, personality and wardrobe. If you are not used to wearing men’s hats, start off with the understated – blacks or the greys work well.

Once you’ve bought your men’s hats, go out and wear them! And when you take it off, don’t forget to store it upside down to help it keep its shape and maintain the brim.
